Our recently-launched Trekkiez assets had quite the entrance this summer — not only did we set them loose while we were at this year’s Comic-Con, we also set them at half price and let you to show off your SciFi movie making prowess with a contest on the site.
We told you to set your phasers to “fun”, and you guys did just that. We had an absolute blast watching and judging the entries for this!
In case you missed it, people were asked to come up with a SciFi-related short (two minutes or less) using these actors that would be judged by its Dialogue, Creativity, and any “Outstanding Effort”. The winner would get an iPad 2, and four others would get a boatload of Xtranormal Points for their efforts.
Having said that, here are the winners:
Overall Winner: “Green Aliens”
Xtranormal user “guywriter” went all out for this entry. Skewering Captain Kirk’s promiscuous reputation? Check. Creative Dr. Seuss-style rhyming SciFi tale? Check. Great impersonations using our new voiceover feature? Check. Dialogue that would make any Trekkie blush? You betcha. Congrats, guywriter! You are now the proud owner of a new iPad 2.
Remainder of the top five: Winning 2,500 Xtranormal Points each, these four movies completed the top five with their outstanding efforts in SciFi intrigue, Trekkie references, witty dialogues, and more.

Honorable Mention
From the hundreds of entries, we quickly realized it was going to be impossible to show off all the incredible effort with just five main winners. These movies were also top contenders in that they were either delightfully silly, strong SciFi scripts, or just great overall movies that unfortunately went over the two minute time limit (sorry, rules are rules : )

Whew! Like we said, there were a lot of great entries that were strong in one or more categories. Want to browse them all? There’s still available for anyone to view here.
We can’t thank our entrants and viewers enough for enjoying these new characters and sets along with us. If you’re interested in making a movie starring our Trekkiez yourself now, they’ve been moved to their permanent home in our Celebz collection, so be sure to pay ‘em a visit!
And of course, a huge congrats goes out to our winners for continuing to show us the great kinds of movies people can enjoy making and viewing as we continue to launch new features and assets on Xtranormal.
Until next time, keep on Trekkin’

Guywriter here. Thank you! I am having tremendous fun making these videos (thanks to your great site), and I’m glad you enjoyed this one.
Randy
So happy to hear you’re having fun, Randy. That’s definitely a lot of what we’re after by creating such a simple movie maker.
Hope to see more of your work in the future!

Will I be able to upload my video to You Tube?
Hi, Terry. I think you contacted elsewhere about this, so hopefully we were able to help there.
Otherwise, while the movies made for this specific contest (which lived on Xtranormal.com only) were not accessible to be uploaded to YouTube, your movies made elsewhere with Xtranormal can be.
Definitely one of the tradeoffs we knew we were making by having a simple to access contest entry area on our website, so apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused for you.
Thanks again for your great entry!

So the winner receives an iPad 2, but people on iPads can’t watch the winning video. Something wrong here…
Definitely, Brent.
While the iPad2 sure makes a great prize and is one of the hottest gizmos out right now, you’re right, it doesn’t exactly play nice with Flash-heavy tools like the movie maker on our website, or Flash-reliant movie viewers like the one used to display our movies online.
We’ve definitely accepted the challenge here, and have a few solutions in mind for both watching and making movies on devices like these in the future. Stay tuned!
